About 11% of people have special options with entities such as Unions, State employees and other groups .

Always get your facts correct with your group insurance before leaving your group.

Your Health, Finances, Lifestyle & Location are good criteria to consider before choosing

Option 1 or Option 2 in the diagram on the prior page.

However

If you have special coverage from an Employer group like a Union , State or Federal agency, please consult with them before making changes. Once you leave a group is may not be possible to go back to it.

There are rules about changing from one side to the other, and some mistakes can be expensive.

Also

If you have been on State Medicaid and turn 65 , & still qualify to keep that Medicaid, it usually will become the secondary insurance and Medicare will be the primary insurance. The levels of Medicaid are determined by complex factors, income being primary.

About half of all Medicare enrollees are in Option 1 or 2 , but that is not the whole story.

Most People enrolling into Medicare usually have two main paths (shown in the federal document below ) as to how to get their Medicare "delivered".

What are my Medicare coverage choices?

There are 2 main ways to get your Medicare coverage.

OPTION 1

Original Medicare

This includes Part A and B.

Part A

Hospital Insurance

Part B

Medical Insurance

You can add:

Part D

Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage

You can also add:

Medigap

Medicare Supplement Coverage

(Medigap policies help pay your out-of-pocket costs in Original Medicare)

OPTION 2

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

These plans are like HMOs or PPOs, and typically include Part A, B, and D.

Part A

Hospital Insurance

Part B

Medical Insurance

Part D

Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage

(Most plans cover prescription drugs. If yours doesn't, you may be able to join a separate Part D plan.
